Demolition

On Memorial weekend, we decided to use some free labor from Dan's family and demolish our chimney and some of the siding. Sat. 7 am I started with siding while Dan went to pick up the scaffoding. Soon Dan's folks came and his mom helped me. Then sister Janell and brother-in-law Don showed up and Don went on the roof to reshingle. Janell, mom and me made up the Schroeder Schroeder Schroeder demolition crew. We definitely will NOT quit our day jobs, but it was fun tearing off siding. No surprise, but our one wall had 3 different types of siding on it. Several areas were rotten-thus explains the leaking of water in our bedroom when it rains.

Don is getting ready to put in a gable vent. We had NONE in the attic, now we have 2. Yeah!

-Doug, Dan's brother came to help also and the guys went up on the hot roof to take off shingles. My fearless husband climbed the roof, tied to the truck on the other side of the fence and preceeded to knock off the chimney (where most of our leaks came from). Dan's Dad supervised.

On the ground chimney demolition.

Vanessa, Ty and Addi came and helped pick up the bricks that Dan tossed over the fence. Ty got to drive the mower and trailer with some assistance from Uncle Dan.
On Monday, Doug and Dan filled in the chimney hole with wood and then put up the remaining Tyvek.

I love this picture of Janell. This chick is one hard worker!
On a side note, I was working, I had to man the camera. I also got all the food ready and took care of that stuff. We still have a little left of the chimney to take down, so I will have a swing at that.
Thanks everyone for all the hard work you did. :)
