I've decided that it was time to post again with an update. Dan's dad came home from the hospital this week and he seems to be fairing much better than the last time. He is getting a handle on his conditions and seems to be moving around some. I am sure he will be back to his teasing self in no time. Dan and I have both been overcome by a sinus infection and I spent most of today lounging in the lazy boy chair as well as in the bed. Dan felt so bad last week that he actually went to the doctor, without me even saying anything. Wow! The second trip since I have known him. I have had the mind numbing headaches as I have tried to teach, making it impossible to think straight. Hopefully, tomorrow will be less painful and I can grade my papers with joy. :)
We have been enjoying the warmer weather that Kansas had to offer this week. Monday-Thursday was very warm, definitely short sleeve weather. However, Friday AM was 17 degrees when I left for school. BRR. The wind is definitely colder and I would like some snow, say Monday morning.... :) Seriously, if it is cold, it should snow.
We are enjoying our foster care classes and as of Thursday, we are half way done. We are exciting about the possibilites being foster parents has to offer. Yesterday, we bought a stroller and a baby car seat off of craigslist. We have picked up free baby clothes from freecycle as well. I am determined to get most of our stuff second hand, this of course not counting the adorable brown bear jacket I bought on sale the other day. :) It is hard to know what to buy when we don't know how old the child will be.
Spring break will be here in 2 weeks for me and I am looking forward to a trip to PA to visit my parents. Dan will be bach'ing it here at home.
Anyhoo... Lynda signing off for the Schroeders.

Stress points leave marks.
Hopefully I'm not airing out the dirty laundry with this blog. In no claims to linear thinking or rigid constraints to chronology are adhered to in this post. Small details may have only happened within the confines of my cranium. I tried to stick to the facts, but emotions can contain more stickiness particles.
February 3-
My father was taken to Wesley Medical Center with severe pain in his side. After the x-rays and scan(s) were take it was determined that he suffered from blood clots and an aortic distention (fancy term that means the main artery of the human body is leaking). Blood tests showed diabetes. Dad was in the hospital learning how to control his blood sugar level and trying to be patient with the staff as they tried to lower his blood pressure to "low normal" or below normal. Dad, like his oldest son, strongly dislikes situations outside of his control.
February 5-
Session #2 of our three hour long PS-MAPP class that is preparing us to become foster parents. I endure a terrible sinus headache. Lynda endures a terribly angry and grouchy husband. TGFS (Thank God For Sudafed). I'm a wimp when it comes to headaches of any type or origin, luckily I am rarely aflicted.
February 6-
Met dad's doctor. Clearly he only wants to communicate only one thing "we need to get [dad's] blood pressure down". Okay, we heard that the first 5 times, how about answering our other questions.
February 7-
Asked congregation to pray for dad's healing and confidence and assurance for mom. A few minutes later Mom talks to another doctor who actually answers her questions rather than deflecting them. Mom feels better. Praise God.
February 10-
Dad goes home to a lifestyle change. Mom frets about switch in roles from cook to specialized dietitian.
February 11-
I call dad to see how things are going and make plans to visit my parents house that night. Lynda is at school attending to parent-teacher conferences. Dad calls back some time later and informs me that his father, my grandfather, has suffered a stroke early this morning and is at NMC. Family was not notified until evening (long story). When I received the call I was reinstalling the thermostat in my pickup (another long story, may be printed later), but had decided before the phone rang, to quit for the evening and get cleaned up.
I arrived at the hospital expecting to find family, but the staff informs me that my grand mother has just left. I left the hospital for my grandparents house to find it empty, so I returned to the hospital. I found grandma out in the lobby. Grandpa's speech is a little slurred and the left side of his face seems to droop but I think that those symptoms should clear up (I'm not a doctor but I've seen people play them on TV).
Dad calls during my visit and informs me that he's coming into the emergency room at NMC. NMC has no beds left that night. Grandpa waited on an emergency room bed for 6(?) hours waiting for an empty room. No matter, dad's leg is swollen because a painful blood clot has blocked circulation and he needs a specialized vascular technician that the NMC does not currently employ at this hour of the night, perhaps it doesn't offer this service at all. Dad's going back to Wesley MICU, the bus left around 10pm. Sis knows what is going on and aches to be with family but decides not to make the trip to Newton, dad is going to Wichita anyway. Long day. Emotionally drained. Asked for prayer chain.
February 12
Doug stayed with mom though the night. Long night. Long work shift. I drove mom to Wesley after shift and stayed as long as possible. They put some blood thinning medication in dad. He is tired of being their pin cushion. I needed to be back in Newton for PS-MAPP session #3. No headache, just pangs of guilt for last weeks behavior. Good session.
February 13
Lynda has dentist appointment while I ride with mom to Wesley. I come back to take Lynda to optometrist, where she will have her eyes dilated for the first time. We try to relax with dinner at "Bella Casa" in Mcpherson. Good food. Watched Madagascar 2 for a few laughs. We needed this.
Thanks for listening, Dan
